Whether you are purchasing a home or looking into refiancing a mortgage you alread have you’re looking at financing a home and you want answers.
You can spend hours searching, viewing, and reading websites about financing a home and many of them will give you good information. Unfortunately much of this information is the same material repackaged into a different design. You end up reading the same articles and get nothing of value. Many of the sites are more interested in getting your information so they can sell you something than giving you information you can use. You don’t need to be sold – you need information and that’s why you are here.
I’ve spent over 25 years helping people understand the mortgage process and obtain the loan that is best for them – not best for the lender. For years many lenders followed a “product de jour” approach where they sold people on risky loans or loans that eventually led to disaster because they were good for the lender but not the customer. I believe that the lenders job is not to sell you something, it’s to inform and educate so that you can make your own decision. If I do a good job of providing you with what you need you’ll be more likely to use my services for the loan.
Great length has been taken to provide you with information that addresses the most common areas of mortgage lending. The articles contained here can be a little detailed and sometimes lengthy. They are that way because mortgage lending is not a quick shot process that can be summed up in a paragraph or two. It’s a major financial decision that should be explained and understood before signing any documents. You should be given the tools to make the right decision and that is what I strive to do with the material on this website.
The mortgage industry has undergone a major shift back to the days of prudent underwriting and minimizing risk. Lenders have years of knowledge as to what makes a customer a higher risk and they are finally beginning to use that knowledge. That’s actually a good thing for most homeowners. Too many homeowners fell prey to unlicensed and untrained mortgage people who convinced them that they could take out a loan that wasn’t in their best interest. Many of these homeowners are now barely holding onto their homes or even worse are being forced to let them go. This disaster could have been avoided with more education, counsel, and proper underwriting. Years of working with people has told me that most people are not interested in gambling their home on some quick fix or complicated loan but that they prefer the safety that comes with knowing they made a sound financial decision that took the long term into consideration.
